The Initial Situation of H.R.D.P
With the thought of arranging an MP meeting, The Study Group approached a group of Burmese MPs visiting Japan. As a first step the attempt succeeded in establishing a new office for the Members of Parliament Union Burma (MPU) in Maesot, Thailand. The office has been operating since the 21st of April 2005and it is under the daily supervision of MP Daw San San (Secretary of Members of Parliament Union, Burma).
The Study Group (Japan) feels that the expectations haven’t been fulfilled satisfactorily due to a lack of knowledge in practical political work, some misunderstandings between the different parties involved and an insufficient financial support. The members of the Study Group use their own personal savings to support the Burmese democratic groups financially. Because of this it is necessary to carefully evaluate the current performance before proceeding, in order to make sure that the support is used in an effective way to promote democracy in Burma. The Study Group is determined to carry out the following:
1.Our initiative is to give socio-economic assistance, access to education and health care for Burmese migrant workers, refugees and other members of the exile community.
2.To upgrade our own skills and abilities as an effort to get democracy in Burma.
3.To encourage understanding, co-operation and mutual respect between nationals of different ethnicities, who represent a great variety of traditions and cultural behavior.
4.To support upgrading their education and technical skills in order to build better future lives for the community members.
5.To set up a Community Centre that gives socio-economical welfare to all ethnic nationalities.
Online meetings with donors and democratic activists in Japan and Thailand are held frequently. On the 25th of June 2005 it was agreed that the above mentioned actions are to be started as soon as possible.
A strategic committee will be set up to successfully conduct our above mentioned resolution. It will of the following members:
